IEA Submission: Mid-Term Review of the Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025

The development of our regional airports plays a significant role in the overall growth and development of a region. While major international airports are essential for connecting cities globally, regional airports serve as important gateways that facilitate economic, social, and environmental benefits at a more localized level. The existence of an airport in a region provides a tangible incentive for businesses to establish themselves in a particular region. Connectivity is a significant factor in facilitating growth in a region – new businesses will locate in an area if it is accessible, while already established companies will be able to expand their reach further. Hence, the Irish Exporters Association believe the State’s overall competitiveness can only be expanded by the continued economic development of our regions and through continued support for regional airports.
