IEA Submission: Electricity Network Tariffs

The Irish Exporters Association recognise the significant risk to Ireland’s electricity supply
over the coming years, driven by increased demand growth, the closure of large electricity
generation units, the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on both the supply of and price
of gas and wider geo-political factors. The IEA recognises and supports the need to conserve
energy where possible, but affordability is rapidly emerging as a major challenge for
exporters and all businesses in Ireland.

Energy costs are now posing a significant threat to the viability of many businesses. Noting
the acknowledgement by the CRU that there has not been sufficient time to analyse its own
proposals in this consultation, the IEA remain unconvinced that such regulatory measures
are the right policy response to the problem. The current trajectory of energy regulation
policy will only increase costs onto already struggling companies.
