Celebrating 25 Years of Pioneering Progress: PTC Therapeutics’ Journey in Europe

Founded in 1998, PTC Therapeutics is a global biopharmaceutical company committed to transforming the lives of people living with rare diseases. Over the last two decades, PTC has expanded its presence worldwide, delivering life-changing therapies and making significant scientific breakthroughs.

Expanding Operations and Establishing a European Hub

In 2014, PTC Therapeutics took a major step by expanding its operations across Europe and establishing its international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. The mission was clear: to improve the lives of patients through innovative therapies and accessible treatments.

Today, PTC’s impact spans more than 50 countries, with offices in 20 locations around the world. “In Ireland, cross-functional teams working across nine departments serve patients globally. Our large supply chain operation in Dublin facilitates the supply of PTC’s medicines across more than 50 geographies around the globe,” says Gabrielle White, Head of Supply Chain and Logistics at PTC, based in Dublin.

Breakthrough Therapies and Patient-Centric Innovations

Over the last decade, PTC has achieved groundbreaking scientific advancements, delivering numerous life-changing therapies for patients with devastating rare diseases. In Europe, PTC introduced the first and only small molecule therapy for patients living with nonsense mutation Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Recently, the company launched the world’s first gene therapy injected directly into the brain to treat AADC deficiency*, an ultra-rare disease.

PTC’s innovative pipeline continues to grow, with a focus on discovering and developing treatments across multiple therapeutic areas using cutting-edge technologies. “We are extremely proud of what we have achieved as a small biopharmaceutical company,” Gabrielle shares. “We have a strong patient-centric and entrepreneurial culture that drives our innovation, our impact, and sustainability efforts across all fronts.”

Beyond Medicines: Building Stronger Communities

The PTC Dublin team is deeply committed to the local community. The dedicated AnSEO (Social, Environmental & Outreach) employee group in Dublin has supported various causes, including Ronald McDonald House in Crumlin Children’s Hospital, St Andrews Board of Management, participating in a sleepout for homelessness, and cycling to raise funds for charity.

PTC’s commitment to environmental sustainability is also evident in its supply chain operations. This year, Gabrielle and her team launched a process to evaluate, identify, and implement solutions to reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint in existing operations.
