IEA Annual Report 2024

The IEA Annual Report 2024 highlights the resilience and strong performance of Ireland’s export sector despite global economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and evolving international trade regulations. Irish goods exports reached a record €223.8 billion, representing a 14% increase compared with 2023, driven primarily by pharmaceuticals, technology and agri-food.

Employment in exporting companies remained strong, with approximately 545,000 people working in agency-supported firms. However, slower economic growth, potential US tariffs and supply chain disruptions reinforced the importance of export diversification and international competitiveness.

Throughout 2024, the IEA strengthened its engagement with government and EU institutions, advocating for improved trade infrastructure, regulatory support and policies encouraging entrepreneurship. Key recommendations included expanding rail freight capacity, modernising Irish ports, improving housing affordability and supporting AI adoption in businesses.

Sustainability and innovation remained central priorities. The Association expanded its training programmes on customs compliance, sustainability reporting and EU environmental regulations. It also organised networking events and the 2024 Export Industry Awards, recognising outstanding achievements across 12 categories, with Combilift named Exporter of the Year.

Looking ahead to 2025 and 2026, the IEA emphasised the need to strengthen Ireland’s economic resilience through continued investment in infrastructure, innovation and productivity. Diversifying export markets, managing trade uncertainties and supporting sustainable business growth were identified as essential to maintaining Ireland’s position in global trade.nce.
