IEA Annual Report 2015
In 2015, Ireland’s export sector played a central role in the country’s economic recovery, supporting growth, employment and international competitiveness. Total exports of goods and services reached approximately €233.8 billion, an increase of 18.1% compared with 2014. Goods exports rose by 21.1%, while services exports increased by 15.5%, driven largely by pharmaceuticals, technology and financial services.
The Irish Exporters Association (IEA) focused on four key priorities: improving national cost competitiveness, addressing skills shortages, diversifying export markets and encouraging entrepreneurship. With Irish exports heavily dependent on the EU, UK and US markets, the Association highlighted the importance of expanding into emerging economies.
Throughout 2015, the IEA strengthened its support for Irish businesses through the launch of the National Export Campaign, National Export Hub and Supply Chain Ireland. These initiatives aimed to help companies enter international markets, improve logistics and expand existing export activities.
Looking ahead, the IEA emphasised the need for stronger government support, improved access to skilled workers, competitive taxation and greater export diversification. The report also highlighted Brexit-related uncertainty as a major potential threat to Ireland’s future export growth.
