Programme Modules

The course covers eight core areas of carbon literacy over the three hours.

Module 1

Introductions and Context

Understand the basic science of climate change, the predicted impact and risks for businesses, and the scale of the challenge for Ireland and the global community to reduce emissions to avoid the worst-case scenarios rapidly.

Module 2

Europe’s Response

Explore the legislative and regulatory landscape for tackling climate change — including the European Green Deal and the Climate Action Act 2021, which legislates for reducing Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030 — and get a clear overview of what this means for your business and the case for taking action now.

Module 3

Terms and Units

Discover the primary greenhouse gases contributing to global warming and the units of measurement used to calculate your carbon footprint, then explore how different forms of transport and freight compare in terms of their carbon impact.

Module 4

Business Approaches to Decarbonisation

Discover the practical approaches your business can take to decarbonise operations, with a particular focus on measuring and reducing freight transport emissions throughout the supply chain using a proven 3-step plan: Measure, Optimise, and Reduce.

Module 5

Measure

Get to grips with the key accounting and measurement principles for calculating greenhouse gas emissions, including the mathematics behind measuring carbon from direct and indirect sources, and learn how to define the boundaries of your Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

Module 6

Optimise

Explore the practical options available to your business for cutting emissions and costs, from smarter energy efficiency measures to the adoption of renewable energy resources.

Module 7

Restore

Learn how your business can make a positive impact on the natural environment, with an overview of carbon offsetting options and green investment opportunities.

Module 8

Next Steps

Leave with a clear path forward — practical tools, guidelines, and actionable next steps to help you calculate, report, and reduce emissions across your entire supply chain.
