TREND TECHNOLOGIES WINS 2017 PLASTICS INDUSTRY AWARD
Trend Technologies was announced as the Winner of the Best Business Initiative of the Year Award at the 2017 Plastics Industry Awards ceremony on Friday 27th October
Trend Technologies was announced as the Winner of the Best Business Initiative of the Year Award at the 2017 Plastics Industry Awards ceremony on Friday 27th October. The event, held at the London Hilton on Park Lane was attended by over 600 industry professionals.
The company’s entry focused on Trend Technologies Ireland’s 2020 Vision “We will be the Injection Moulder of Choice, in Ireland and the U.K., by developing Showcase Facilities, Innovative Technologies and Critical Competencies.”
The entry highlighted Trend Technologies’ recently completed €3M investment programme to upgrade offices, plant, machinery, and exterior works including the upgrade of the building’s façade, carpark and landscaping at the site.
The investment included the expansion of the company’s ISO Class 7 (10,000) cleanroom manufacturing space by 50% in response to the demand for high quality medical device components, and included a new cleanroom dedicated to post-moulding services.
The company invested in several new Sumitomo (SHI) Demag 50-tonne IntElect electric machines, an Arburg 200-tonne 2K electric machine, and the latest digital printing, laser welding, and vision inspection and recording equipment. The company sourced RJG’s eDart system for in-cavity pressure monitoring and short shot detection.
In addition to expanding cleanroom manufacturing space and implementing new technologies, the company has invested in extensive staff training and development initiatives to develop world-class polymer industry expertise.
The judges said, “This worthy winner’s impressive journey makes them a model for other companies to emulate.”

Trend Technologies was also a finalist for the 2017 Plastics Industry Awards Processor of the Year and Best Training and Development Programme of the Year awards.
The company is a finalist for the Irish Exporters Association’s Life Sciences Exporter of the Year and Medium Size Exporter of the Year Awards which will be announced in Dublin on November 17th, and the Irish Medtech Association’s Partner/Supplier of the Year Award, with the winner to be announced at the Irish Medtech Excellence Awards in Galway on December 7th.
Trend Technologies has been manufacturing in Ireland for 36 years and employs 185 people at its site in Mullingar. Components manufactured by Trend Technologies in Ireland for the life sciences sector include stent delivery systems, surgical handles, wound care devices, ventilator housings, tubing connectors and diagnostic consumables. Examples of components manufactured for global automotive brands include speaker grills, centre console panels and housings, rear view mirrors, interior door trims and handles.
