Rosslare Europort Now Ireland’s Number 1 Port for Direct Ro-Ro Services to Europe

While there have been significant challenges with Covid-19 and Brexit so far in 2021. Rosslare Europort has seen freight increase by 51% for the first two months of 2021 when compared to last year. With the unprecedented demand for direct services to Europe, this has contributed to a freight growth of 476% on the direct services to the continent year to date. While the UK traffic makes a slight recovery it is 43% down compared to last year. Since the 2nd of January when DFDS introduced a new service from Rosslare to Dunkirk the service has gone from strength to strength with the Danish operator DFDS now increasing to 16 services a week to and from Rosslare and the introduction of a fourth vessel on the route.

Stena Line and Brittany Ferries have also added extra capacity from Rosslare to Cherbourg and Bilbao. Stena Line now offer 12 services a week to and from Rosslare and have increased capacity on the route with the introduction of both MV Stena Estrid and MV Foreteller on the route. Brittany Ferries have also added a new Cherbourg service from Rosslare to its existing two weekly sailings to Bilbao with the MV Connemara.

Further good news was announced this week by both Irish Ferries and Stena regarding services to the UK from Rosslare Europort.  From the Monday 5th Irish Ferries will replace the MV Isle of Inishmore with the MV Blue Star 1 on the Rosslare to Pembroke service. The Blue Star 1 will be the fastest RoRo passenger vessel operating between Ireland and the UK. In addition to this Stena Line will also return to four sailings per day between Rosslare and Fishguard with the MV Stena Europe, meaning Rosslare Europort offers more than 28 sailings per week between Ireland and the UK.

Rosslare Europort is now Ireland’s number one port for direct roll-on, roll-off services to Europe serving the ports of Bilbao, Cherbourg and Dunkirk.
