Sustainable Supply Chains Training: Sustainable Procurement
The Sustainable Procurement course trains companies on how to assess their current procurement processes and how to adopt more sustainable practices going forward. The course provides an overview of the Smart Freight Centre’s Freight Procurement Guidelines developed in conjunction with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). This course will bring participants up to date on the Circular Economy and Green Procurement (Clause 8.3 within ISO50001) in the context of a rapidly changing legislative and business environment.
The Sustainable Procurement training workshop consists of three modules. Each of the modules will be delivered in interactive 50-minute sessions via the WebEx platform. This will be followed by a Q&A session where participants can raise particular issues and challenges their organisations are facing.
Module 1: Reprise and Update
Module 1 will review the legislative and climate context for adopting sustainable business practices. Participants will learn of the various frameworks and approaches and the ethical and business cases for taking action. Case studies of best practice including examples of Irish-based companies will be examined. This will be followed by an exploration of the definitions of circular economy, sustainable or ‘green’ procurement and the next steps for implementing these strategies within an organisation.
Module 2: The SFC/WBSCD Framework
Module 2 will introduce participants to the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) / World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Freight Procurement Guidelines. Participants will learn the key steps for implementing sustainable procurement strategies including preparation, planning, tendering and contracting, and managing and reporting of carbon emissions. Participants will also learn of options for accessing funding such as the EEOS-funded ECO Fleet platform.
Module 3: Engaging SME suppliers
Module 3 will train participants in how to engage suppliers in a sustainable energy and carbon reduction programme and how to ensure their suppliers are providing accurate and complete data. Participants will be provided with a copy of the Smart Freight Centre Procurement Guidelines for adoption within their companies
