Mr Eoin O’Leary, Irish Ambassador to China

Eoin O'Leary became Ambassador of Ireland to the People's Republic of China in September 2017. He is also accredited as non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Mongolia.  He was most recently the Director General of the European Neighbourhood and Policy Division, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.  Previously he was Ambassador of Ireland to the Russian Federation. Concurrently, he was Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. He has also been the Irish Ambassador to the OSCE and chaired the OSCE Permanent Council in 2012.  Eoin held the position of Director General of the European and International Affairs Division in the Department of the Taoiseach (Prime Minister's Office) from 2000 to 2007. In that post Mr. O'Leary played a key role in the management of Ireland's Presidency of the EU in 2004, and in the negotiation of the European Constitution and Lisbon Treaty.
